How to compress a PDF file?

The compress PDF (reduce file size) feature will make your PDFs smaller.

This article will cover the instructions for the following versions:

 

Soda PDF Desktop

Step 1 - Open the Compress Tool

  • Click on Create & Convert
  • Choose Compress.

Step 2 - Set compression quality

You can decide how much you want to compress your file. Keep in mind that compression happens by lowering the quality of the graphical parts of your PDF. 

  • Choose the level of compression.

You'll see an estimate for your new file size.

 

Step 3 - Confirm Compression

You're now ready to reduce the file size of your PDF. 

  • Choose Reduce file size.

Step 4 - Save your compressed PDF

The last thing to do is to choose where to save the compressed copy of your PDF.

  • Choose a Save Location on your computer.
  • Click Save.

The new compressed PDF will be saved to that location. The file will also open in Soda PDF ready for you to review.

Soda PDF Online

You can access Soda PDF Online here - https://tools.sodapdf.com/

  • Open the Edit tab.
  • Select the Compress option to compress the whole document.

 

 

  • If you want to compress a selection of pages, click on the Organize tool, check the pages, and click on the Compress option.

 

 

  • Select the level of compression and click the Compress selected button.

 

 

Once the document is compressed, the following window will open.

  • Click on the pen icon to rename the file.
  • Click on the Save To My Device button to download the file.
  • You also have the option to print it or email it.
